Open Letter to CallToPBX

CallToPBX_Logo

Dear CallToPBX people,

I guess, at least now you may notice my problems. I have been using your service for almost six months. For first three months, I didn't have that much problems. Not saying that I NEVER had any problems, but compared to your service in recent months, those problems were nothing.

Now let's start with the list :

1. When I started using your service, I was using iPhone 3GS. After registering for the service through your website, I logged in to your iPhone app. For next 3 days, it was showing me the status as 'Forbidden'. I tried to contact your customer service, but no reply at all. After three days, I got an e-mail from your customer service which only says - "Check now". Even though that solved my problem and the call-screen started showing 'Registered' status, nobody ever gave me any explanation about the error, even after asking. This cycle repeats every time when I update my phone's OS and install calltopbx app. I never get any kind of explanation from your people.

2. In the conditions given above, I also get an error as 'maximum number of stale retries exceeded', which I never understood or never your people gave any explanation about that. Only "Check now".

3. No matter if I'm using wi-fi or 3G service, around 6 out of 10 times, your app fails to connect to the server. Instead of changing the status from 'service unavailable' to 'registered', it ends up in 'request timeout'.

TimeOut

Sometimes your app doesn't even try to connect to the server. It just stays idle on 'service unavailable' screen until I close the app and open it again with a hope to connect.

ServiceUnavailable

4. Even if your app connects to the server, showing 'Registered' status, it doesn't mean that now I can successfully make a call. Now from this point, 8 out of 10 times, your app ends up on 'not found' screen as shown in the screenshot.

Not Found

From these screenshots below, you can see that I have dialed one single number TWENTY-NINE times and it ended with 'not found'. Note : That only successful calls have been highlighted with the red rectangle around them.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

some more for the same number...

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Here are some more.....

PhotobucketPhotobucket

and just for your information, I always dial numbers without '00' or '+' at the beginning.

5. After all these things, IF a call connects, it hardly lasts for 5-7 minutes. Then either that app crashes and call disconnects or first call disconnects leaving the app non-responding.

6. Now, when the topic has come to crashing of your app, let me tell this : If CallToPBX pays me $1 each time this app crashes, by the end of a month I will be at least a billionaire. One of your customer service person once told me that they are aware of this problem and they are working on a new dialer.

NewDialer

But within 20 days, when I asked again about the new dialer, that same person (I think so, same name) replied me that there should not be such problem with the app. Instead he asked me to uninstall that app and install it again, which I had already done number of times and found useless.

NoDialer

7. Your service used to provide good sound quality and voice transfer delay was unheard of. Now sound 'quality' has becoming worse day by day. sometimes I cannot even differentiate between human voice and static disturbance.

8. Your service sets the best example of voice transfer delay. Whenever I'm lucky enough to have my call connected, it takes almost 4-5 seconds to get reply from another side. Just imagine that you are talking on a phone; you say something and then there is only a dead silence for almost 5 seconds before you hear your reply. I don't know about other users, but I definitely don't prefer this kind of service.

9. Why does your app erases contacts from my device? I'm not the only one with this problem. When I googled it, I found out that there are many users affected by this problem. Check the reviews in iTunes.

10. What is your customer care number to contact you? There is no number mentioned on your website. I googled for that and somewhere I found this number - '1888-CALLTOPBX', which directly goes to the voicemail of some stupid system. I tried leaving voicemail on this number, but no callback. Is that really your number or you just do not have any number?

11. And its better if I don't say anything about your web dialer and 'Vippie'. Vippie sucks big time, almost same errors as iPhone app, in fact more. And web dialer is the best example of how many different kinds of errors are possibly available in a javascript's execution.

12. You should really check what people say about your service on other sites too. I'll make that easier for you. Here are the links : 1 | 2 | 3
Read comments below those articles.

I would not have written all these if it was any other company/service. I liked your service, when it was functioning properly. I just did not quit because I thought these could be temporary problem and you will sort them out. But now its been like that for more than three months and your people do not even reply properly.

I have already recharged for this month, so anyhow I'm still gonna wait for at least few days. Then if your service remains like this only, then good-bye CallToPBX. Its better to pay little bit more and get less than paying lesser and getting nothing.

Thanks Vaibhav for bring this post to my notice at TruVoIPBuzz.

I went through your post and I am wondering if the problem is with the iPhone app itself and not so much with the service. I admit that this is also not acceptable, but I will be curious to see your results with another SIP client/ATA. Also, how are other VoIP providers working on your iPhone? Let me know if you want me to test it out at my end.

Thanks once again!!

Oh what truth! They should get their act straight or lose customers! Myself I am looking into inphonex.

That's frustrating as I've been without service for over 4 days and calling Brazil is what I need the most with the Simple Plan. They were responding the emails but not anymore..I wonder if they are closing shop and stopping operations. I was really happy with the plan but not anymore. I use a phone adapter at home but even their site dialer does not work for my calls at this time. What gives?

Hi
Very True!
I got so fed up of using their vippie dialer that I went and purchased a Linksys VOIP adapter.
And the service works fine as long as their servers are ok. I mean i do not get bogged down by their poorly developed dialers.
Another way is to setup the nokia's native voip client. But seriously their service keep getting disrupted every now and then. Very unreliable service and poor customer service.

Thank you for your reply. I am pretty sure that their iPhone app has various problems, but this seems like a problem with their service.
I tried that same service through FRING and iSIP on iPhone, same results unfortunately. Only good thing is - these app do not crash like theirs.
I use skype on my iPhone for their unlimited US n Canada plan, which works pretty good. Never had any problem with that.
I have used yahoo once when i got limited free minutes offer once. That worked well too. Its just calltopbx.

Thank you for your willingness, but I'd suggest you not to try this at your end. You're just gonna waste $10.

Only one request : if you can, just add link to this article in your post itself as an update. There must be number of readers who may stumble upon your article while searching reviews for calltopbx. This post can save their money and time as well.

Thank you, once again.

Yeah, I also said that in one of my mail to them; looks like they don't care about it anymore.
and regarding inphonex, they do not have any iPhone app. I have limited minutes plan. I am looking for something that will run on 3g or at least wi-fi.
Do you have any idea about such service? Your help is appreciated.

I got a reply from them today - six days later.

"Hello,
We are facing few issues with some destinations today.
We are doing our best to fix it as soon as possible."

Please, let me know if you find any alternative service. I'll do the same.

वैभव गायकवाड said...

Thanks friend. I hope they will improve their service.

Hi,

I've got the same response today. I hope that will be solved soon enough because otherwise I'll be looking for a similar service elsewhere. I have VoipBuster Pro installed and use it when Calltopbx is down. Google Voice has some decent International rates too. Vonage is nice but pricey for the World Plan. I'm also open to suggestions on another service.

वैभव गायकवाड said...

Hey
Have you looked at these guys?
http://tatatalk.com (Not linked to Ratan Tata at all :-) ). I have not used their service yet but sent a mail and yet receive a reply. I came across this site from one of the blogs...

वैभव गायकवाड said...

Did anyone get their service back yet? - I'm still no service here... This is ridiculous.

वैभव गायकवाड said...

This othet guy commented after u - sajith told me about some service called tatatalk.com. Its not tata's official service though. They also have really low rates. But dont want to use my minutes.

वैभव गायकवाड said...

I could make two calls yesterday. Quality was ok. They might have fixed their issue by now. idk.

वैभव गायकवाड said...

Hi
I got a mail from calltopbx, saying they have changed my passwords due to security reasons, and that I should reset them.
I was able to make calls but the quality was very bad....

वैभव गायकवाड said...

Looks like the call quality and issues started after more people joined... and consequently CallToPBX increased their $10 plan to $20... $10 for 2500 min was too good to last...

वैभव गायकवाड said...

Hi,

Adding to this, i have also having trouble in logging in. Customer support is of no use. God knows when they will respond. At this time i can send one message to them.

Perform or Perish...........
